World War 1 was started after the assignation of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand. This event triggered war between the two triple alliances; France, Britain and Russia vs. Germany, Hungary and the Ottoman Empire. Italy stayed neutral at the start of the war then joined the allies (France, Britain, Russia and later the US). Russia eventually erupted into a internal cilvil war removing their support for the war effort on the German and Austria-Hungarian front.
